Good morning! We have an annual family camping/fishing trip each year. This year we picked Tawakoni on Oct. 7-9. I fished it several years ago, but most of us haven't at all and aren't familiar with the lake or "hot spots", especially for catfish and crappie. We have a fish fry on Sat. night for 20 people--usually catfish & crappie. (that's what most prefer!) We're staying at Thousand Trails. Any "tips" or advice on baits, drift or anchor?, where to head to & start on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning will be greatly appreciated. We may be open to a guided trip, too on Sat. Sorry for the long post--just wanted to get the background out there for yall! Thanks!!

I usually fish Lavon, but try to catch some fresh shad for bait. If you're needing a lot of fish for a fish fry, you may want to set out some jugs while you're fishing.

On the east side of the lake about 1/4 mile north of the bridge there is a point not a real pronounced point but a point. If you have a depth finder follow that point out it will drop from 19 to 29 foot at that time of the year for eaters I like fishing as close to that as i can but still in the deeper water with punch bait. If you throw some cut bait out tho you can get into some trophy fish there as well. Some may have better spots on that lake but that has been a winning hole for me! Oh and I anchor on that point but you can drift the channel too and thats always a win. But for eaters that point is good

First off, you picked a great time of the year. If I had to feed 20 people crappie or catfish, I'd set out juglines with fresh shad. Crappie fishing is good under the one mile and two mile bridges and in October some will head back to shallow water. Standing timber in 12 to 14 feet is also good in the fall. Read up on the new catfish rules
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Thanks, Guys! I really appreciate the info/tips! We'll have a great time--we always do--even if we struggle to catch anything! That's the whole point of our annual trip, anyway. Catching eaters is just the icing on the weekend cake!

I have a trip planned to Twok next week. I'll follow back up with you after that to let you know what works for us.
The key will likely be the weather. If we get a cold spell in Oct it could change things up.

Good morning! We're a week away from our trip...everyone is getting pumped to hit the lake next Friday afternoon & Saturday! Thanks to those of you who replied to my posts a few weeks ago! Any recent news or reports will really appreciated...looks like the weather will be great--now where do we "start" this time of year?

Be sure to know the NEW catfish regs.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.

If any rain comes and the creeks are moving at all, the mouths of the creeks are usually good for eater blues.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!
