Had Phil from Colorado out today for a half day trip. He brought his brother in law and nephew along for the day as well. Had to be one of the most pleasant August days in Texas I can remember having in a long time. The weather was unbelievable. The bite was on today and the jig bite was strong. They caught fish on brush piles, then timber and again on brush piles. They boated around 200 fish and I cleaned 26 nice crappie, 7 cats and 2 sandies for a fish fry. They had a fishing trip of a lifetime and I enjoyed putting them on fish. I'm still running $200 half day trips thru August for TFF members who mention the deal.

I have Sunday open this weekend for a Ray Roberts crappie trip. The bite has been really good lately on both brush and timber.

Had Jerry and Mike out today for a half day trip. Fishing was slow on both the brush and timber in the early morning. They finally started biting really good around 11:00 on brush. The bite finished strong on both minnows and jigs. Jerry and Mike went home with a nice big bag of fillets.

Hello I am brand new to TFF so I hope I'm doing this right.
I would like to buy a fresh caught/frozen alligator gar. I will pay $50.00 cash for a fish that is around three feet long. I live in Fort Worth and can easily drive to the Lake Ray Roberts area.

Hi Zepher,

Welcome to the fishing forum. I'm curious as to why you need an alligator gar. Really, you have my interest.

I believe an alligator gar is considered a game fish with a daily bag limit of one. That would mean you can keep one for yourself, or one on a booked professionally guided fishing trip.

If I'm correct that would mean it would be illegal for a licensed fishing guide (like Jacky Wiggins) or anyone else to sell one.

We are all friends here, or that is the ideal. Think I'm paranoid, because this sounds like a state game warden baiting someone for $50.

Not doing it right, you are highjacking a thread where a hardworking guide is showing off what his recent trips are producing. Whats really not right is you are in the wrong part of the forum. Maybe try the classifieds?
Are Alligator Gar considered game fish in Texas? Limit 1/day..... Is it legal to sell game fish in Texas?
Not looking for answers.... Back to the OP's subject...How hot is Ray Roberts? juggle

Hello. I am wanting an alligator gar to photograph. I live in Benbrook and I am told (at Benbrook Marina) that there are no gar in Benbrook Lake. The girl that works there told me that she and her boyfriend were recently kayaking at Ray Roberts and saw lots of gar there.
I am very sorry, I was definitely not trying to cause any problems. I guess I was hoping that the person that posed this (or one of his/her clients) might be able to sell me a fish. Any suggestions would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Had David, his sons Tate and Grant, and their friend Reed out today to celebrate Tate's birthday on a afternoon Ray Roberts crappie trip. The weather was awesome. The crappie bite was really on. The caught lots of fish on brush and timber. Boated around 200 fish and cleaned 23 nice crappie for a fish fry. Every one of them caught a new personal best crappie today. David caught a monster 15" crappie with a huge mouth. They pulled almost all the big fish from one tree. They had a blast and I really enjoyed putting them on fish. I have a couple spots open this week and the afternoon bite is really good right now.

Had Mark and his son Jacob out today for some afternoon crappie fishing on Ray Roberts. The wind was pretty stout out of the Southwest which made fishing brush pretty tough. They boated a lot of 9 7/8 and barely 10 fish today which went back in the lake. Only cleaned around 12 keepers and a few cats today. The highlight was Jacob catching a huge largemouth on some timber on a 5'6" ultralight and 6lb test line. The fish even wrapped around a limb under water and never broke the line or pulled the jig. What a great memory for him and a awesome new personal best largemouth. They did catch a lot of smaller largemouth today as well. Congrats on a great fish and story to go with it.

Thanks Jacky. Jake and I had a great time. He got a memory that will last him a long time with that largemouth. It gave me an opportunity to mention the high school has a bass fishing team smile and maybe he and I could mix in a few bass fishing trips to get him ready...LoL.

Though we didn't catch many keepers, we caught fish steady for the trip on both brush and timber. We would have filled the cooler with 9 inchers. I wanted to say thanks the most for your being enjoyable and taking the time to teach Jake more about fishing and showing me better ways to fish the brush as well.

Thanks!
Mark

Spent the afternoon with John and his two sons Landon and Logan. They were very novice fisherman but eventually they got going pretty good. They fished out 10 dozen minnows on brush and timber. Ended up with 20 keeper crappie (probably lost 10-15 more), 3 channel cats, 2 largemouth and a sandy for a fish fry. Threw back a load of small crappie, small largemouth and a few big drum. All in all a solid half day on the water and they had a blast. I still have some spots left for my special price this month.

Wanted to share the jig that has been working really well the last few weeks in Ray Roberts since the water has cleared up some. Seems best rigged on a 1/16 pink and white big bite jig head fished on 6 lb test. Another little thing is to tie it on with a loop knot that gives the jig a little more freedom to move around. They really like the fall and bite it most times before it reaches brush. Fish this jig on brush in 20-30 ft thats protected from the wind. Works on most timber as well fished 8-12 ft down in timber around 20 ft deep.

Enjoyed having Chris and his girlfriend out today for a half day trip on Ray Roberts. Brush piles in 20-30 ft produced good numbers of small crappie. Timber in 20 ft seemed to be the place for the big fish. Jig bite was really good early then gave way to the minnow bite towards midday. They boated a lot of fish and ended up with 30 solid keeper crappie and a few cats. She really put a hurting on some crappie today.
