Does thumping really have a season? Meaning it only works at certain times of the year. I recently moved to Canyon Lake and am an extremely frustrated White seeker. I just heard about thumping, know nothing about it, and will appreciate any advice.

Thumping will work year round except when the fish are already shallow like in the spring time. Sometimes it works then also.
From what I have found if the fish are less than 12 to 15 ft. deep it will not attract them as well as other times.
Late fall and winter are ideal times for thumping. Summer, when the fish are deeper trying to find cooler water, it works fairly well also.
I look for scattered bait balls and maybe a fish or two in water that is deeper than 15 ft. on my sonar, and start thumping.
Usually the bait will move in first, then you will see diagonal lines from bottom left to top right on your sonar. That is fish chasing shad up from the bottom. Hold on to your rods tight.

Agreed with above. I thump nearly year round. Many times in spring (March and April, even into May) I have found whites roaming in 30-40 FOW on Lake livingston and get them piled under the boat. Bait depth is critical when it comes to thumping in deeper water!

I also fish canyon for whites and striper... I did really good up until the boaters and hot summer sun came out.. However with the recent rains and cooling temps I've seen some good reports on the top water striper. As we cool off, fish begin to show themselves more and the bird activity is always worth looking for. Fish will begin to move towards the river also.. That lake is generally tough, but when it's on, it's an awesome place to catch whites and stripers.
