Has anyone here had any knowledge of high end knockoffs such as Loomis or other top lines of rods?

Do you mean knock offs as in offshore products complete with the pirated name on the rods?

Or do you mean "This rod is just as good as Loomis Model whatever" ?

It all starts and ends with the blanks.

I would think many rod builders buy them in bulk from china.

Yes, there are fake GLoomis rods.

Just about every unbelievable deal on EBay from China is a fake

Just kidding. Is isn't even in the same ballpark as a Loomis. But, it is made in China.

TFO is made in Korea at a plant that belongs to TFO.

Go hold some lower end rods, unless you are one of the fortunate few that can afford 500 a rod, there are a ton of 100-200 rods that will impress. My peasant hands have never thrown a Loomis, but I am happy with the mix and match low-mid level rods I've accumulated over the past few years.

TFO rods are not Loomis blanks but built under the guidance of Gary Loomis. The blanks are approved by Gary Loomis only. They are made in Korea

I have never seen a counterfeit Loomis, but am sure they are out there. I buy all my Loomis rods from an authorized dealer and would suggest that others do the same if you are gonna invest thst kind of money on a rod. All Loomis blanks are rolled in their factory in Washington, whether it's an NRX or an E6.

I could be mistaken as I'm not longer into building rods like I used to... but as far as I'm aware North Fork Composite blanks are made in Washington and was started by Gary Loomis. I have about a dozen of their blanks that I have built rods on, and I find them to be comparable to the couple G Loomis rods I own. (I would also mention that Rainshadow is my favorite brand of blanks to build with and is definitely worth a look)

When I quit building rods I was using Sage and Loomis blanks. I am tempted to break out the stuff and build a couple.

You are right on, North Fork Composites is the company Gary created after he sold G Loomis. His high end blanks from North Fork are comparable to or exceed G Loomis stuff they are producing now. Y'all can call me crazy but the quality of construction has gone downhill at GLoomis since Gary left, In particular their epoxy work.

But IMHO Rainshadow is my clear winner in the best blank department. The blanks between every high end manufacturer all have similar modulus ratings, resin, scrim, and blank construction etc. But Rainshadow's tapers are without a doubt the best I've built and fished with. Who ever is their rod designer is a genius.
