Also looking for guide recommendations.

The link below is where we stay. Its very clean, sleeps at least 6 guys, ice machine, boat dock, grill, stocked kitchen, good ac. Pretty hard to beat for $200. Guide can pick you up right at your front porch. The owner is also a very good person to deal with. I'm sure many of the floating houses on VBRO are very nice, but I can personally vouch for the one below. Hope this helps! Venice is a great place. Wish I was there right now!

Lots of house boats to book at Venice Marina. It's the way to go.

Guides average 900+ tip, and they don't clean fish.. You do,, or you pay someone to..
It's a great place to fish, not much else, you feel like your being ripped off the whole time. That's just the way it is, but it's a ton of fun.. No regrets on my plate for sure.. 4 days of catch'n thumb
Ck. with John Varner in the white bass section, they go every year, they were there in a floating house right in Venice marina when we were there.. We stayed in a giant lodge about 2 miles from the marina, we all had our own boats. Took a 1-day guide trip to get the feel for the Mississippi (scary) huge ships, and where the good fishing areas were.
Live shrimp average .05 each if you go out on your own,, minimum 50 per person. It cost us 100 bucks a day just for bait, if we used shrimp.. only 2 days worth, we went to the south pass day 3 and day 4 to fish the jetties for bull reds.. Best one was a 50" incher, it was a beast, but we had others as well..

Next time we're down there, I'm going to try an swing a couple days at this place, it's right there 1/4 mile from the south pass jetties... We stopped on way back to the marina and got the grand tour, the place is super super nice and right at the mouth of the action. It has a marina to slip your boats and lots of bait.. Worth a look, I promise you that..Food looked good, big rooms, you can fish right off the big mooring dock on the pass..

Good luck buddy, definitely a bucket list thang cheers

Mine will be a self guided trip and I will be using artificials and catching my own bait. I just need a clean place to stay on the water that preferably has an ice machine. The friend going with me offered to tow my boat and fill it up when we arrived. I haven't told him that it has an 84 gallon gas tank yet. It should be a fun surprise.

Awesome...I did already figure out this wont be cheap for sure! Leaving next Tuesday with Zach, Brian, and a couple of others to stay on a houseboat - fishing offshore one day and two days inshore. Looks like I better sharpen my knife!

It's all inclusive ran by a legend, Mike Frenette. His wife Lori will cook you breakfast and a 5 course Creole dinner each night. Mike's son, Michael, is the best guide I have ever used on fresh or salt water. I would ask for him.

I just cancelled a weekend trip for that reason. Sucks but felt like it was the right call with the guide report.
