I've got myself some 4 and 6 inch robo worms. I think what I'm going to do is go the lake with only that one rod, then I'm forced to mess with it all day.

I have been drop shotting for the past ten years or so , not a really big fan , but it works .In shallower water (less than 10-15 feet ), moving the lure seems to increase my hook ups as the bass up shallow are more aggressive . In deeper water ( 20-50 feet ) , I find barely moving the at all works the best for me . I do put lots of various scents on the worm and I think that helps trigger less active fish that are deeper . I also use shorter leaders in shallower water ( 8-12 " ) and longer leaders ( 10-20" ) in deeper water. I have a buddy that drop shots huge swimbaits ( 10"-12" mission city swimbaits on huge hooks ) in deep water ,does really well , several DD's doing this .
tight lines ,
Robb

No need for braid in my opinion... Try all flouro... Also many times the boat motion alone is moving your rod and bait enough for the technique. Not only a light line presentation but also try a heavier drop shot set up in the thick timber or matted grass. Not my favorite way of fishing, but it's grown on me over the years.

What's the water clarity where you are trying it?
I don't do well with drop shot if the visibility is less than 4fow.

I think that explains it

With decent water clarity you would have gotten bit on a drop shot by now.

I've tried this deep, I've tried this shallow, I've tried this around bass going crazy feeding, I've tried this in 3 lakes, I've worked the [censored] out of it... and not a single strike, and I cannot figure out why.

This probably has a lot to do with your lack of bites. It takes very little input to get plenty of action to your bait. It's easy to over do it.

I think it works best in clearer water. Ill hand the dropshot to inexperienced anglers and tell them just to hold the line tight and not move it and they usually catch them.

Resist the urge to move the bait. I have caught a lot of fish on a dshot just dropping over the side and putting my foot on the rod handle while I drag a crig.

OK, so I'm probably around stupid fish, but I had my 6 yr old kids catching 2 to 4 lb fish on drop shot frequently enough to keep their attention...
Tossing it out and moving it about a foot at a time, sweeping it in about 3 ft hops and even dragging it behind the boat. I think you just had to get it where the fish were. Also, the fish were on or near the bottom, on or close to fish holding structure. This is in a lake where the fish really school up and we were on the schools. One of them was using a Zebco 33 with 15 lb line and was not having any luck till I changed it to 8lb floro. Sprayed grass Bama Bug and black grape trick worms. Probably five trips during the course of a week and a half. Clarity was probably 2 ft. Depth 8 to 10 ft.

I have a drop shot on the deck on just about ever lake I go to.. I use 10lb braid on 1 rod and 10 big game on another but most of the time it's braid.. Just see how the fish are setting up tight on the bottom or a few feet up and adjust your leader length.. Green Pumpkin and June Bug Zoom finesse 4" worms is about all I use.. I find them on my Lowrance and drop it on them and they will move around so I also cast the drop shot around and drag the weight slowly on the bottom And have caught some of my biggest drop shot fish cast it..

It has won me LOTS of money.

To the op. Try a Arron's Magic color Roboworm. Don't move it too much, it kinda works best when you just let it move in the current.

You SHOULD be able to catch fish with it. It always catches fish for me...every time out when I try it. Maybe not always the best quality fish, but it is definitely a limit getter....quick. Then go looking for cull fish.

This^^^^

If it has won someone lots of money they were dink fishing on Fork.
I used to drop shot and got tired of catching 30 fish that were 10" long.
