Congratulations to Eric Stevens of Seguin Texas who caught the pending record Lake Placid Flathead Catfish. The old record was 17.40 Lbs caught in September 2010. The pending record's certified weight is 18.30 Lbs. Eric caught the fish in about 12 feet of water using shad. The fish was released. Paper work was completed and will be sent to Parks&Wildlife. Again Congratulations to Eric on catching a super nice fish. cheers

Congrats to Eric on his record fish. I fish that part of the river a lot mainly for Crappie and bass. I see several catfish anglers out there on a regular basis. I am surprised a bigger Flathead has not been posted in the books.(Rod/Reel). I see you hold the all tackle record of 46.15 lbs. The Guadalupe has some HUGE Flat Heads!

Curtis: The Guadalupe River is loaded with HUGE catfish! I have caught 30 plus pound Blues on both Mcqueeney and Dunlap! breakdance The State Record Rod/Reel Flathead is 98.50 Lbs caught on Palestine back in 1998. The State Other Tackle Record is 114 Lbs. caught in 1976 on Livingston. The Lake Mcqueeney Other Tackle Record is 104 lbs caught back in 1956. thumb

Side Note: Was fishing with Cliff Hill who used to be a catfish guide several years ago. We were fishing Placid and had seven rods out. All of em heavy tackle. One rod was baited with a large live sunfish and the others had small live sunfish and cut shade. hmmm After about an hour wate the rod baited with the large sunfish bent straight down to the water and drag started to peal. hooked It was very hard to raise the rod, the fish was so heavy. The fish pealed drag for about 5 minutes and then got the line hung up and it broke off. bang The fish even moved Cliff's boat which was a 21 footer. nuts We both agree it had to have been a Flathead 50 to 60 pound plus! What ever it was it was BIG! noidea
