I'm going for 2 weeks starting the second of September. Starting in Missoula Mt, then working my way to Jackson Wy, then to Basalt Co, and finishing at 11 mile canyon. Any advise on Montana and Wyoming would be welcomed. Pretty much got Colorado figured out. Thanks

See Post on Yellowstone River and tributaries being closed. I called yesterday and cancelled my accommodations for last two weeks of September. I'm changing everything to Western Montana: Big Hole, Gallatin, Bitterroot, etc. Going to be cold higher up. though. Good luck and I'd like to see a report as you return.

I was all through ID, MT and WY last year and had the most luck on the Snake (south, henry's fork, etc), Madison, Teton, and Gallatin Rivers and used Island Park, ID, Bozeman, MT and Jackson, WY as bases when not camping. There's a ton of blue ribbon water in that region. As for routes, do yourself a favor and take 90 like you're going to Bozeman, then head down 287/20 towards Island Park, ID. Lot's of access points for good fishing on the way to Jackson.

Arrived in Estes Park this afternoon. Staying on the Fall River, went out after super and caught a couple on yellow sallies. Fishing in Rocky Mountain National Park tomorrow, then off to Missoula Montana Monday

Well we had good luck in the park on yellow sallies.
Extremely crowded around there. Arrived in Missoula last night

Went to The Grizzly Hackle fly shop this morning.
Gave me plenty of info on where to fish, nice shop.
Fished Rock Creek, cold, windy, and rainy, no luck.
Went to cabelas and hung out awhile. Going to hit
Fish Creek, and maybe Clarks Fork tomorrow.

Well, Fish Creek didnt have much water or fish. Drove over to the Blackfoot, ran into a guide coming off a float trip, gave me some info on where to wade fish and what to use so tomorrow we'll try that. Been seeing signs about bears, figured they were talking about black bears, nope, grizzlies. 😳

Good Luck! ID has some great water! Depending on where you're coming/going to/from, PM me and I may be able to give you a couple of spots where I've had some luck. Safe Travels!

Well the Henrey's Fork is wide and deep, not used to rivers this big. Had some fish rising, but couldn't
get them to take anything. Fly shop said even the guides have a tough time. Was fishing the ranch.
Going to hit some smaller rivers tomorrow.

Oldnslow, sorry I missed your message until this morning. I would've told you to skip the Ranch. Very technical and it doesn't fish like it did back in the day. I wish someone would've told me that before I spent an entire day skunking that stretch through the park. Safe travels!

Fished the Frying Pan today. Lots of fish, lots of fisherman. You can catch them, but you have to be
Persistent. Won't come back here though, to much private property limiting where you can fish. This would explain the crowded conditions.

Well back in Texas, back to the heat. Time to pull out the shotgun and do a little bird hunting
Saw some beautiful country on the trip. Time to start planning next years trips. Montana again
South Platte in Colorado, and some bone fishing in Florida
