Is there any real difference between Saltwater and Freshwater trolling motors?

Yes, there are a few things like the coating and the anodes that make it resistant to corrosion.

Both freshwater and saltwater use stainless steel components. Most saltwater are hand operated so bearings don't come into play. The Saltwater uses a different primer under the paint. It also uses shrink tubing that covers the connections to the control board as well as sacrificial anodes on the prop or on the skeg of the trollingmotor. John
