250# is pretty light for a motorized vessel that will haul you and your gear over 30 mph. Looks like it will run in a foot of water. Or less.

I'll pass on anything other than HPV, anything that burns fuel, and anything that requires registration, and anything that won't fit in the back of my S10.

When does a kayak stop being a kayak?

When does a kayak stop being a kayak? Ah, the eternal question. I'm pretty sure that once a human stops propelling it, the craft metamorphoses into a motor or sailing vessel (or a buoy!). As for pedals, I'll leave that one for the experts. Heck, I am not so sure my Ascend H12 is a kayak. It's rather canoeish! cricman

If I lived on the coast and fished the marshes all the time, I'd consider something like that, but I'd still own a simple kayak or two. If you couldn't feel like you were having fun riding that thing, then you are in the wrong sport.
Just one more cast!

It looks very cool. Id just hate to get stranded, break down, or run outta gas offshore and have to paddle a 250lb kayak back to launch site. Seems anytime you stop depending on a paddle is the time you need it most.

Someone in the North Dallas area keeps advertising those things. It's not all that great in the big scheme of things. Lots of false advertising also. I can buy a very nice boat for less than $6000. They are more easily affordable than a boat, they have way less maintenance
Price: $5,980 (according to the Aquanami website) another plastic speed boatI'll also add that those things have been around for a few years but, they don't sell well at all. More of a gimmick or high priced toy. Over priced IMO. .

Looks like another small jet boat to me. Small jet propelled vessels r nothing new. If u like that thing youd probably love the new jet skies! They go much faster than 30mph! They can also handle more & go longer distances with higher payload capacity. Beside all that, I don't see any rods:-( Human powered kayaks r here to stay. Most folks like them for their versital simplicity.

Just a guess that we will soon see a big correction in the other way: toward simplicity.
I don't mean that Native and Hobie will ever not make their two versions of pedals, others too, but I am already very close to wanting to revert to a pure paddler.
What might fit the bill is a really nice paddle kayak with the option to install pedals, like the new Wilderness options.
To have no gas, no oil, no routine mechanical maintenance: a dream.
Solving the "holding water" will be important. I think I have an idea how that could be done.
