We just bought Humminbird Helix 9 for the front with a trolling motor transducer. The Xi5 comes with the sonar built in for Lowrance and you can get an adaptor for Humminbird. Since we just bought it and all dialed it, not going to change it out.

Well, since it's only sonar and not down imaging, I plan to put the transducer on the lower unit. Has anyone done this and have they run into any issues with interference?

Also, since I'm not using the cables for the Lowrance sonar, has anyone figured out a way to remove them? Or do you just let them dangle? One comes all the way down from the head unit and there is another smaller one that comes out from under the base. I guess it can just stay there, just seems odd.

I ran a separate transducer on mine. I did have some interference for a while. I used some zip ties and have the cable as far away as I can from the head of the trolling motor, and it seems to have solved it I just let those cables that I'm not using dangle. They don't bother me.

Gmann,

I use the coils like what Gonzz showed. I ran the cable up to the head and then down through the coiled wires. I put a spring to keep some tension on the cable so it doesn't sag. I don't have any of my pictures anymore but did find this post with some good info in it for you.

One trick is to use some 3/4" radiator hose to shield the cable where it lays along the power head. I split about 12"s of it and then wrapped the cable with aluminum foil and then the radiator hose and used electrical tape to seal it all up. No interference for me.

Excellent! Right now it's just taped right above the lower unit and the wire is dangling in front.

Only thing now that bothers me is the Lowrance connector that's bundled up at the base. Always in the way when I go to step on the release.
