Caught four decent-sized sunfish this morning on a white woolly bugger. Most of the sunfish I catch at this pond are bluegill and green sunfish. The four this morning didn't look like the bluegill I normally catch, which are darker with a pronounced blue area on the face, but since bluegill can vary so much in appearance I wasn't sure if these were bluegill or not. If they aren't, any idea what they are? Thanks.

Here are two looks at today's fish.

Looks like a hybrid sunfish. Bluegill/Redear mix! Just my two cents. 2cents

A lot of sunfish have been inner breeding over the years making it hard to I.D. fish. I have talked with several wildlife biologist who state the same. hmmm

Pretty sunfish for sure. It does look a lot like a red ear. But hybrids are really common now. So much so its crazy.

Thanks. I was thinking redear but none of the ones I caught had redears, so I wasn't sure. A hybrid makes sense.

I'm on other forums that deal with the old turbo powered Buicks.;)

Gotta agree with Fitz on this one. The first one looks like a regular redear to me. The second looks like a longear/redear hybrid. It has the body pattern of a redear with the head of a longear.
