Curtis: The Guadalupe River is loaded with HUGE catfish! I have caught 30 plus pound Blues on both Mcqueeney and Dunlap!
The State Record Rod/Reel Flathead is 98.50 Lbs caught on Palestine back in 1998. The State Other Tackle Record is 114 Lbs. caught in 1976 on Livingston. The Lake Mcqueeney Other Tackle Record is 104 lbs caught back in 1956.
Side Note: Was fishing with Cliff Hill who used to be a catfish guide several years ago. We were fishing Placid and had seven rods out. All of em heavy tackle. One rod was baited with a large live sunfish and the others had small live sunfish and cut shade.
After about an hour wate the rod baited with the large sunfish bent straight down to the water and drag started to peal.
It was very hard to raise the rod, the fish was so heavy. The fish pealed drag for about 5 minutes and then got the line hung up and it broke off.
The fish even moved Cliff's boat which was a 21 footer.
We both agree it had to have been a Flathead 50 to 60 pound plus! What ever it was it was BIG!
