I don't usually care what line I use, prefer mono for casting and braid for jigging. High viz is a must for my old eyes.

A friend (Stopper) reccomended I try Sufix 832 Hi-viz Yellow (660-020Y) . I bought some a few weeks ago but didn't use it until today. I thought, braid is braid. WRONG.

I bought 20# test, 6# dia. That's strong enough to pull up stumps and casts as smooth as mono.

I just ordered 600 yards more on e-bay. Going to put it on all my rods.

Try it.

Do you use a mono or fluro leader or just direct tie?

I usually use a flouro leader but often don't. Doesn't seem to matter much to the fish but it's easier to change jigs on mono.

Besides, why take a chance, when you fish with Guy & Rick every bite is important, but who's counting.

I use a clip called a "No Knot - Fas Clip" I get from Cabellas. They work great for me. I use braid and don't have to retie when change jigs. At my age and eyesight I do have to use my needle nose pliers, but that beats having to tie a knot. Been using them all this year and never a problem. hooked

+1 on the Power Pro Slick. Really smooth line for braid. Rarely wraps on the tip. Flows well off the spool.

I couldn't agree more on the 832. I've been using the 20# Hi Vis green for 3+ years and don't use anything else except for the mono on my dock shooters. It handles better than any small diameter braid I've found.

Ernest: In super clear water even mono can be a problem. I've watched fish at PK swim at a jig to take it and then dart away at the last second due to seeing mono. Once I switched to a 6 lb test fluorocarbon leader I never had that problem again.

Yes but you don't have to replace it nearly as often.

So I was wondering also how long a leader and the best line to line knot to tie.

I'm just learning crappie fishing this year,..Been bass fishing the last 15 years,..
I use 10 pound braid, yellow, I like to tie on about 12-14 feet of 8 pound trilene xtra smooth casting.
I use a uni to uni knot,,...when done I like to have about 12 feet of leader. This give me a great
way to tell how much line I have in the water...works pretty good so far..

Well that's me too. Long time a bass fisher and will still continue, however. Have enjoyed some crappie fishing a few times a year for a mess to have a family fry now and then. Now looking at turning the grand kids on to fishing as well as spending some good family time on the water with the better half. Just want to learn more techniques with jigs instead of minners.

I've got reels with 3+ year old line on them that I use with no issue. You can use mono backing with the top 50+- yards being braid and fish a long time. You can also reverse braid on the spool and get another few years out of it, that's what I did this year on my reels with older line on them.

I normally use about a rod length of fluoro attached with the Alberto knot. Here's a YouTube link on how to tie, there are others there as well but this one is from the man that named it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J56O3CZVu7M

With a little practice it's not a hard knot to tie.
