A customer sent this picture to me of his first snook. I don't have many details other than it was in South Texas, wading, and he was rigged weedless with an Owner Pivot Head jig. I have not tried these yet, but I have use the similiar in style from Strike King Swimming Swimbait Head with a Trokar hook with great success. www.mycoastoutdoors.com

On Lone Star Law last week the Wardens watched Mexican netters and cut their net. Showed them releasing a bunch of 12 to 15 inch snook out of the net. I didn't know the population was that strong.
Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.

I'd never heard of a snook until moving to Florida in the late 80s. Found out all about them quick when I moved to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and two blocks from Anglin's Pier, the most popular pier in south florida for catching big snook at the time. Will never forget watching a guy on the pier fishing next to me hook and land a 27 lb monster early on. I became a snook fisherman. It was all I ever fished for, for many years and got the nickname Snooky, from my fishing buds. I would fish for them ever day after work and late into the night during the week. On weekends I would sometimes fish 24 hours straight with only a break to run home and get something to eat, then right back to fishing. So many great memories of those fish. Started out only using live baits... pilchard, finger mullet, jumbo shrimp, later only artificials. The last one I ever ate. It was right at 32 inches and maximum length you could keep at the time. Soft mouths on smaller snook After reading up more and more over the years and moving back to Texas, I found out that Port Isabel, Texas had some real monsters back in the day. http://www.snookfoundation.org/news/38-general/165-yes-florida-there-are-snook-in-texas.html

Thanks for the article link. I make my way down to south Texas and or Florida most years to get my fix of snook. I know if I ever live in Florida they will be my main target, as well as double digit trout in the winter and spring.
