The fish are feeding on very small shad. Try a 1/4 oz. slab and a crappie jig with a thump buddy. All the fish, both big and small are feeding on tiny shad that are hard to match. Downsizing may be the key to success. I went from zero to hero, when I found the size they wanted on Lake Belton. It may help you catch more fish on Lavon. The posts by Tarpon Fly talk about small lures on Lavon and I tried it on Belton with good success. Read back through his posts and follow his advice. Good luck and tight lines.

I did not fish this weekend. Last Sunday we used pencil poppers, 3/4 in slabs with two thump buddies above them and some little george spinners. Try those. Poppers are the most fun.

Would an Evergreen Showerblow be considered a pencil popper?

Pencil poppers are narrow thin poppers. The cotton Cordell is awesome because you can cast it a long way. I use silver and black back because that is all they had at bass pro. Throw it at any boiling fish, jerk it and hang on. They may swipe at it a few times before they hook up which makes it really fun. I have other top waters like Zara spooks but I can't cast them as far. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cotton-Co...mp;gclsrc=aw.ds

Read Cary's thread. I read it and do what he says. I have also taken trips with him. If you follow his advice he will put you on fish.

I do not think it is shad size at Lavon. I have been using slabs as large as 1-3/4" oz to chase the dinks off. I went Saturday and I think the front had them off the feed. I saw one fish caught out of probably 20 boats. I went from artificials to live bait and finally got a few. Evening may have been better than the morning last weekend. I am not much of an evening fisherman unless I am camping.

That is why I skipped this weekend. Sometimes they bite well other times not so much but I fish the same way every time... I think you are doing the right things, just make sure your electronics are lit up

I was on Lavon a few times this past week/weekend. I was crappie fishing but caught a lot of sandies. They were schooling all over and I picked off @ 15 on a crappie jig. My screen was flush with streaks and it was game on for as long as I wanted to chase them. This was all in front of Avalon Ramp. I tried the RR bridge and there was fish there, but nothing was biting except one little yellow bass. Tried a few other places and struck out, saw a bunch of boats on the humps over by the plant, but left them to themselves. I am going to try and make it out this weekend sometime Sunday. If you see my boat, stop by and I'll share whatever information that I have. Always nice to meet new people and tell some stories
you know, nothing wrong with seven men who met on the internet going for a swim together

I'm spanking them from the bank. May want try shallow? Cordell spoon w/ jig bringing lots of doubles. Lots of smalls w/ mags mixed in 2 out of 10. Late evening clay bottom steep drop off, has been the pattern lately. Nice largemouth mixed in for bonus fish! Hey beautiful weather enjoy will you can! Good luck folks
