Got here today. Streets were a little wet. Will have a fishing story after Tuesday.

Hahaha. Could be possible. Shoreline is 200 feet to the right in that picture. Hopefully I'll have a good trip tomorrow. I'll take as many pics as I can. Fish or not.

Left the dock about 7:00 am. Thunderstorms were crazy that morning. Sun came out around 7:30. Pulled up to the first spot. Water was a little off color and around 6 ft deep. Saw around 10 tarpon role immediately. The guide was trying to rig up and show me how to cast while the tarpon were rolling behind us. I told him I knew what to do with it and give me the stick, he laughed. Bombed a 50 foot back cast, got 2 eats. 2 min later, guide swung the boat, 70 ft cast, let it sink, strip strip, huge flash, line went tight, fish jumped 8 ft into the air, didn't give him enough slack, so 0-3 tarpon! Next spot, water was 1-2 feet deep. Saw a monster snook. Put the fly a foot from his nose, stripped the fly all the way to the tip of the rod, fish followed it until he almost ran into the boat. 5 min later, 5 tarpon playing around a small area. Fed the first one, no go. Fed the second, no go. Poled another 50 feet had another 3 shots. No go. I guess it was my awesome casting skills, not! Got back into a mangrove lagoon, fed 1 happy fish, came tight, had him on for about 30 seconds, put to much pressure on him trying to keep him out of the woods. We left that place to look for a ton of permit lol!! Poled a huge flat for about an hour, no permit. Bernardo said, "time to go!" It was a blast. The trip was way too short. Book at least 2 days if you ever go. Cheers!

I could sit and look at those pics all day ( and I just might). Just hooking a Tarpon is worth points in my book. I'm not sure what the real ratio is of hooked Tarpon to boated fish but mine is about ten to one. One day is very hard to get into the groove of things - just too much going on. Sounds like you did fine to me. Thanks for the pics.

Capt. Mac, I feel the same way. Love this stuff. As you already know, it's not as easy as it looks. Only thing you have to worry about in open water is the wind. You get in a mangrove flat, you may have to cast over a mangrove bush to get a shot. I don't think there's any way to prepare to fish stuff this tight unless you actually do it on a consistent basis. The long shots are not as bad as the short ones. A short bass rod would have been perfect for the mangroves. Hope we can fish together sometime.

And the ride between spots were unexpected. 20-50 minute boat ride between spots. You actually fish 2/3 of the time.
