Is this the same or comparable to having the HDS 12 Gen 2 with an LSS2 box.
Does the Structure Scan 3D box replace the LSS box for the Gen3 units.
Any help would be appreciated

Oops, I read too fast. You were asking about the 3D box...

Structure scan capabilities are in the head units now. So the Touch, Gen 2 & Gen 3 don't need a SS box. Gen 3 has the capability to run the 3D option.

I hear the New TI Elite series is basically the older HDS modules but do not have a networking option.

I just picked up the Gen 3 Touch 9. Todd I haven't even transfered my waypoints. I'm easily able to find the spots I knew were there and mark others I hadn't noticed. I'm going to get honey holes off my SD card and start from scratch. I'm very happy with this unit.

I still have the HDS-8 gen 2 on bow but plan on pushing the gen3 9 up front and getting that 12 touch gen3 with 3d package very soon.

I was disappointed in the HDS 12 Touch I bought new and installed in my last boat. I had Slade tune it up, but it still didn't have the image quality the HDS Gen1 with the LSS1 box I sold to you, Tommy. When I bought the LSS2 box from Gonzz and installed it, I was extremely happy with the image quality.......
So you can see why I skeptical about them having the images processed in the unit itself. I've heard that you can't use an LSS2 box on the Gen3 units, as it will damage the unit.
I guess my question is the 3D Structure scan box an external processer for the sidescan for the Gen3 units like the LSS2 box was for the Gen2 units??????

Todd I got your v/mail. I will call in the morning. The 3D is not structurescan. It is only 3D. the structurescan is incorporated into the unit. 3D is Lowrances 2nd attempt to compete with the Humminbird 360. The 1st was the SpotLight Scan Transducer.

My understanding is the transducer that comes with the 3D has far more crystals which in turn gives you an even better picture. It also gets a far better return to the point you can side scan far even in the shallows.

Im not running the 3D yet but it looks pretty good to me. Taken recently right after I got it.

The 3D allows the range to be greater than w/out 3D it also allows you to play with the display. You can flip it turn it twist it. Keep in mind that the data that you are playing with is old data. Data in which is already behind you. You will spend a lot of time playing and less time fishing. Yes it is cool to look at.

I have a friend running the 3d addon on his Gen 3 12 touch. He told me the down scan and side scan images are better with the 3d box.

Yes it will enhance the images just as if you get the LSS2 module box for the Gen2 Touch. The SS Module has been incorporated into the head unit however Lowrance left out some key components that gives you the sharper images. W/out purchasing the LSS2 Module for the Gen2 Touch models or the 3D Module for Gen3 models your images just are not as good as they were when the Module was not incorporated into the unit.
