I got on the water about noon. Was able to catch shad on the aerators. Fished 18 to 35 fow. 50 channel cats, 2 lb. to 6 lbs. 2 small crappies. 1 drum 6 lbs. About an hour before sunset I ran out of shad and switched to slabs. No takers. Switched to a Mepps #3 aglia with a white skirt with a 1/4 oz split shot 18" up. Game on! 17 magnum sandbass in 20 minutes with 20 casts. Not a bad afternoon. Thanks to Dennis Christian with his Mepps technique. It really does work.

That sounds good. We went on the 14th and I never could get any whites or hybrids located. The aerators were barren of shad as well, as were the other places I normally get them, so we went with artificials. I ended up catching a channel cat on a #2 mepps. I stumbled across some brush piles a while back, and we ended up on them and caught crappie for a few hours. Not really what I had in mind, but a good day out on the lake none the less.

I was catching hybrid on west side main lake jump 35-40' with blue silver slabs but only mid day. Not any good in evening except when they were schooling before dark. Haven't tried since weather has been cooler.

Tck, I threw at 2 aerators and no shad . The next aerator i let my net go as far down as it had rope, 3 dozen in 2 casts. Not like early morning but good enough.
thanks rick, will try that next time.

Where are the aerators located. Never seen them before. Admittedly I spend most of my time in the river.

Bigbob, By the dam. Can't miss them. There are several scattered in that area. If you drive over the dam you can look down and see them. Throw your cast net directly covering the circle of bubbles, light a smoke, drink a beer, whatever while it sinks till the rope is tight, then sharp tug and pull it back up. If something pulls back it may be one of the white buoy markers on that aerator. That doesn't happen often though. Most of the shad will be small 2" with a few 4". If before daylight it will be 400 very small catfish that get hung up in your net. Best to wait till you can see just before sunup.

Jbobo: Is your net taped? I have always had trouble catching shad with mine when they are deep.
Bet that was a real joy digging those catfish out of the net.

I have one that is taped and has a rope taken from an old torn net added to it. I think it will reach close to 30 ft. I normally only use it in Winter if necessary. This last trip the shad weren't close to the surface like normally on the aerators. That trip and one today I had to let my net sink to the ropes length to catch 1 or 2 dozen at a time. And getting those little catfish suckers out of the net in the dark is one of the worse things I have had to do on the boat. You will get at least one fin, usually several in your hand. If some of you catch some catfish later on who are minus a fin or two, you can guess why.

They were on in the afternoon Sat. Guy I was with said they were off in the am but came on after lunch sometime. We caught shad at 4:00 again at 6:00 pm. They were deep. Had to let net go to the end of the rope. His keep alive bait tank doesn't keep alive for long.
