Back in 2006 someone shot one on the shore of their property in Little Elm that was 10ft. I think Channel 4 had a helicopter pic of it tied off of a guy on a jet ski checking it out. After the stench of decomposition was reported, TPWD towed it out in the lake and tied it off to a stump for it to rot out for the cats and turtles. Another 6 ft was in the news West of the 35 bridge in late 2014. All this is on the inet if you search. Last year, South of the dam Corp of Eng or Biologists (don't recall) posted a pic of a 9 footer in a ditch. I guess they are in the refuge area down there gettin big and every now an then decide to come to the main lake.

Gators are protected in Texas. Big fine to harm or harass them. Why would you want to shoot one anyway.

Just kidding. I'm not going to shoot one. I would like to go on a gator hunt though.

I fish in that area occasionally & I think I have seen one a couple of times. They have been at a distance too far away to be identified. I always thought it was a nutria (LL has a lot of them). Next time I am going in for a closer look. LL has plenty of food for the gators. I hope they like water turkeys.

They are around! We've been dealing with them in the Elm Fork ever since I was in High School and my dad and I fished the bar pits and old river channels. We would find tracks, the big mudholes they dig to cool off in summer, and on occasion hear the bellow of a bull alligator feeling frisky! I saw one back in October swimming across a flooded Elm Fork near the Campion Trails park on Riverside. He looked to be in the 8-9 ft range. I tried to turn around and go back to get a pic, but the traffic was so heavy(rush hour), by the time i found a turnaround area, and got back, he had disappeared.
I got a feeling someone is gonna be in for a big surprise as they approach a water hazard on Luna Vista golf course, aka LB Houston, and soon!

Hmm my only worry is my ducks or dog during early teal season before it gets cold. I have been around plenty of gators in Louisiana marshes, they were in the water when we were cast netting but a dead teal or swimming lab could be in danger. Makes me rethink hunting from flooded bushes.

A pic was taken of a 9'er behind the damn in that swampy area last year. Makes sense that they are walking over the dam into the big lake. I saw one from the road (BS 121) in that big private lake near the bridge that crosses over one finger of it just yesterday.
