When it comes loose does the ball receiver move forward? If it does the ball has loaded pressure on it. I have to back my Ranger into its stall and hit the brakes quickly to make the brake extend or it`s a pain to take off.

chock the trailer wheels and pull forward to release the pressure on the trailer master cylinder.

WAIT, ELECTRIC BRAKES? Most likely hydraulic brakes on a boat trailer.....

A lot of trailer brakes have a reverse lockout lever on the tongue to keep them from applying in reverse.....

Bronco thanks for suggestion, its been a pain, does have a reverse lockout knob on side of tongue,in a slot, supposed to be in back position when reversing. Thing is when I went to unhook,i hadn't backed up,i had used brakes. Guess master cyl. on trailer put pressure on latch. I will try chok a tire to see what happens. Thanks again.
