Fishing in our boat slips has been very poor for weeks, lots of small 6" fish but rarely a keeper. Maybe one or two barely legal each trip, or none.
Yesterday we returned to the dock around noon. While I cleaned our fish Rick fished in the slips. In 30 min. he caught 12 fish, all legal and 10 of them were 12"-14".
Today, more of the same. 8 fish, all over 12".
Where did they come from? Have they just moved in or have we been there at the wrong time?
Crappie are weird.

I am seeing the same thing out west Ernest. I had been fishing early (6 am to 9 am) for the past month with decent results on numbers but not many big fish. I had errands to run on my last day off and wasn't finished until almost 1pm. I could either go home and tie jigs or fish....so I fished!
I was shocked that I actually caught more AND bigger fish from 1pm to 5pm. I can't figure it out, but that's why we love it.

Heat and sun. I've seen crappie in Aug/Sept move in 3-4 FOW after the sun is up for 4-5 hrs. Fished shallow piles on Belton 7-8 am and nada. Go back about noon and catch 3-5 good fish off each one. General pattern in Aug-Sept.

Heat and sun. I've seen crappie in Aug/Sept I would normally agree but went to the slips on Tuesday in the rain/clouds and limited out in an hour and a half! I've never limited out in the slips in AUGUST. So strange but I'll take it!
