I know the temps are still too warm but what time of year usually marks the "kickoff" for good crappie fishing from the bank and off docks? Plan on trying my luck Labor Day weekend, is that still a little too early? Thx!

Our boat slips on Palestine are in 5-10 fow right now and the water is hot. That being said, noticed there was tons of bait in there yesterday so dropped a jig today and caught a dozen keepers in about 20 minutes. They were all in 10' about 8' down and they thumped the fire out of the jig. They were alot more aggressive than the fish we have been catching out deeper.

Quick update. Fished our docks at least a little bit every day this last week and caught at least a few nice keepers every day. Yesterday afternoon was was the best though. Managed one of my quickest limits yet. Most of the adjacent water is 4-6' deep and it looked like it was at a low boil there was so much bait fish in the cove. Caught most all my fish there this week on a black/gray slab bandit and shadaboy thump chubby, 6-8' down in 8-10' of water. I would imagine when the sun comes out and it warms back up to normal August temperatures they will move back out somewhere a little deeper but it was a good week. Hopefully they wont go too far. And to answer the original question, there is a public bank spot real close by that would probably offer a good shot at catching quite a few fish.

For the last 10 years at 'The Office' we've pretty much have had to stop fishing there about Apr-May due to lack of fish, but not this year. We are catching some very nice fish now, and have been all year. Just when you think you've got them figured out.........

In "normal" years crappie are almost impossible to catch from the bank/docks from roughly mid May- mid Oct. This year has been strange as the boat docks have been holding good fish all summer. I usually catch the crappie VERY good in the creeks and docks from mid Oct- mid May.
