For slow bottom fishing, I'm wondering how often/much jigs are used vs. plastic worms in the hot days of summer. I fish a worm most of the time, on Tx rigs, C-rigs, and drop shot rigs, and rarely throw a jig. What about you guys?

I throw a jig/trailer more often than soft baits as a rule. I am trying to gain some confidence in C-rig. I will throw a T-rig quite a bit too. I try to keep a couple of jig/trailers and at least a couple of T-rigs always on deck. I need to get more familiar with drop shots too.

Structure/cover, climate conditions, and where the fish are relating to the cover/structure:

My usual preferences
Deep, tall trees -jig or swim bait falling through and slowly pulling over and falling again over the branches--love it
Deep brush- t rigged worm or crankbait
Deep gravel/shell bed- fish on the bottom: c rig or football jig suspended off the bottom swim bait or drop shot
Deep boulders/rock piles--fish on the bottom/jig fish suspended off the bottom swim bait or drop shot
Deep, low wind, not much timber- drop shot

I like to throw a 3/4 oz. Santone flipping jig in the summer. For me it gets hung up in the timber less than a 3/4 oz football head jig. You can also stroke it for a reaction bite.

Love the Mexican Heather and JC's Spicy Craw Santone football jigs. Didn't know Santone had a 3/4 oz. in their M series of jigs.

I throw a jig a lot in the summer 3/4 and 1oz you can get right in a hurry at times, I make a lot of my own jigs but also use santone Mexican heather JC Spice or a PB&J . I will use one more then soft plastics, depending on the lake. The bite is unmistakable when you get hit, they will knock 4ft of slack in the line, it is my favorite way to fish 15ft-35ft, drag it like a Crig or stroke it.

Always throw a jig in the deep trees and stump fields. I like it because it can carry more of the senses that a Big Bass is looking for than a plastic.

I'm the opposite, other than some shallow heavy cover applications I use a jig almost exclusively. It probably costs me a few bites here and there but the quality is typically a little better. If I can get away with throwing a football jig instead of a C-rig I'll do it, but I keep plenty of plastics on the boat for those times the rig is required. My preference is for the drop shot and shakey head rods to NEVER leave the rod box. LOL

Check out Louisiana Craw, Pinto beans and carrots, and Sloppy Joe at a tackle shop. They look better in person than the pictures. I also like Mexican Heather, haven't tried the JC Spicy craw. I will have to add that color to my list.
