If you are interested in tying with deer hair, we have an incredible opportunity coming to the DFW area in a few weeks. Two of America’s best deer hair fly tyers, Mike George and Pat Cohen, will be demonstrating their skills at the IFFF Texas Expo in Grapevine on September 9 and 10.

Mike George is the 2015 winner of the IFFF’s most prestigious fly tying honor, the Buz Buszek Award. I first saw his work in the pages of “Fly Tyer” magazine. Mike is an expert at stacking deer hair and his flies are truly works of “art”. You can see examples of his work at his website:

Pat Cohen is kind of the next generation of fly tyers and he has introduced different techniques that have changed the definition of “tight” deer hair flies. He is the creator of the “Fugley” deer hair packing tool. Using this tool he achieves some amazing results with deer hair. If you are like me and struggle with deer hair, Pat’s presentations should not be missed. I am looking forward to meeting this guy. Here’s his website:

Their presentations/classes/demo’s (whatever you want to call them) are free with the admission into the Texas Expo.

I think this is the current schedule:

Pat Cohen – Friday, Sept 9; 11:00 to 1:00 “Deer Hair Bass Bugs”
Mike George – Saturday, Sept 10; 10:00 to 11:00 “Deer Hair Flies”
Pat Cohen – Saturday, Sept 10; 11:00 to 1:00 “Carpnado”

Come join us in Grapevine, this will be a great event! (Hey, these are only two of the outstanding fly tyers that will be there. laugh )
