Got a few images from a biologist with Threadfin netted from different counties in Texas all the way down to Mexico...sum was the Threadfin all looked the same....

I always thought they had a brown or dark gold tint to them....maybe it's in their scales...

These are just 2 examples of Threadfin netted from various years....there are many more and they all tend to look the same ....

Preserving those specimens for over 30 years seems to have altered their color. Possibly preserved in formalin .

I've never seen shad in Texas that brown.

Just my experience.

Formalin can definitely mess with colors ... I've seen it a lot with reptiles. I used to hunt and breed snakes, and occasionally we'd preserve specimens for museums.

Again, I'm just speaking from my own experience in that I've never seen shad in Texas that brown....and I could definitely be wrong.
