The morning Bluegill Bite has been SUPER all summer long! Got these at two different locations. A creek and pond. Fish were found at sun up close to the banks and by shallow grass beds. Bite is strong between 6:30am till 10am. Once the early morning cloud cover is gone and the heat starts to set in the fish head to the deeper pockets or under the shade of over hanging tree limbs.After 10am the bite slows down. Fish were caught on ultra light tackle using worms. Float and bottom techniques were all used. Most fish were released but a few were kept for the dinner table.Catching summer time Bluegills! It just don't get any better!

It would have been tough fly casting but I have not doubt they would have destroyed a small top water popper in those spots.

Mmmm...those are some good eating little rascals. I've always said if a perch grew as big as a bass you never would get it in the boat.

Man you are having a good summer Chuck! The Bluegill bite for me has been on and off all summer long. The fast Guadalupe River current along with the wake boaters has made fishing difficult. Also the dam break on Lake Wood has not helped the eastern side of the river. I have been catching some nice gills hanging with the Crappie off of brush piles in 12 to 15 feet of water fishing the east end of the river. Got a feeling that a lot of the brush piles that me and Jeff had marked have been washed away after this latest rain event. Plan on hitting the Guadalupe later this week.

Thanks Curtis for the reply! I have not fished the Guadalupe much this summer due to all of the recreational boat traffic! The few times I did fish Dunlap the bite was not that good and no sooner did I get a line in the water a WAKE boat would come by. After Labor Day the boat traffic will lighten up and the river lakes will become more ANGLER FRIENDLY! In the meantime creeks,ponds,and hill country rivers are producing some SUPER FISH. This latest rain has really turned em on.

Yea Chuck I know the feeling on the summer boat traffic. Mcqueeney was pretty bad also. Tried some night fishing and still had a lot of boat traffic!

After this weekend the river lakes will start getting back to ANGLER FRIENDLY!
