I've been crappie fishing more than anything lately but have been catching some big 'gills on both minnows and jigs. I've also been rolling a lot of my own crappie jigs. I was thinking about tying up some smaller jigs to specifically target bream. What are some good color combos? Most of what I see sold are brightly colored. Are more natural offerings better at times also?

Thanks, Austin

I use worms 95 percent of the time while fishing for sunfish. When fishing for Crappie I have caught many a nice Bluegill and sunfish while fishing with jigs that were pink and chartreuse in color. Chartreuse and black were also good colors that caught some nice sunnies. thumb

Hey Austin...I tell you what works for me, is to get as natural looking as I can get...I tied up some 1/64th heads with some red fox tail and a chartreuse thread neck...also tied in a couple strands of pumpkin spinner bait skirt to look like legs...I have caught some big gills and red ear on these...but like banker said worms are the ticket, I do tip the jig with a piece of night crawler about 80% of the time...I've been told that squirrel tail works very good also.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

This^^^^^! I will add blue and chartreuse or blue and green combo to the 1/64oz jigs!

I like my fishing like a whino likes his wine!

Something else I've been planning to do but haven't yet is to tie up some with the little feathers left all over the yard by my neighbors chickens..those black and grey dominicker feathers and orange road island red feathers look just right.

I tie my own flies for bluegill and sunfish. Black, Olive, Black with chartreuse tail and crawfish orange have been my best color patterns in lakes and ponds. For me, bluegill seem to prefer more natural colors.

Chartreuse seems to be a color that works just about anywhere.

Thanks for the replies guys! I tied up a few 'lectric chickens and baby bass pattern yesterday. I'll give them a shot soon and report back. Troy, those dominicker feathers would make a sweet looking jig.
