Spent the weekend trolling for stripers in my usual spots on whitney with little luck...tried major points, different levels around the island and the flats across from the king creek.... I have down riggers so i can fish any depth.... tried cranks, jigs and spinners but I couldn't pattern anything... so any suggestions?

I'm sure Big D will elaborate via PM to you, but I was just there last weekend and the bite was tough with the southworst wind. We fished live shad and slabs both. I know the trollers/downrigger guys are having a hard time because of the thermocline happening now...typical late summer time issue for this time of year. They were sitting just off the bottom in 24-26 FOW or up in the column at about 18, but they were sluggish and not feeding aggressively. We did end up catching quite a few fish, evening seemed to be better than the mornings. I did notice that the bites seemed to be a little better in the areas that I found that weren't the community holes that get pounded pretty good.
Drifting or strolling with Slabs and shad both seemed to work better than trying to sit on them. Probably not much help but it's all I got! '
Heck we even caught suspended fish at 25' in 80 FOW!

Was out there two weeks ago. My second time fishing Whitney. It was tough. Marked some good fish in 22' they just wouldn't stay put. Very scattered. Would pick up one or two fish per drift. Couldn't find Shad so we were throwing artie's. One of those guys in an Epic CC told me they were catching some close to the island but it had been tough since the lake opened back up.

We caught several stripers last Wednesday on RSR silver and gold slabs in front of the state park. We were in 20 ft of water off the rocks by the old ramp. Could mark fish/ sand bass off the points, but couldn't get them to bite. The stripers took the slabs pretty good tho. We fished from 7:30 to 10 in the morning. I hope this helps.

We always seemed to find them near the river channel in summer (haven't been in several years though) or just off the channel on humps. Also, windblown points and banks, especially early in the morning (state park bank was good with a south wind).

I spent some time cast netting for bait all around uncle Gus's in July. The biggest concentration of fish was all around the cleaning station. Caught everything except stripers. My buddies caught fish on rattle traps and crank baits while I was netting.
