I am looking for a truck to pull a 2200lb, 24ft center console boat. I want something comparable to either a diesel F250 or a Ram diesel 2500. Do any of you guys with bigger boats have any suggestions on which may be the better choice, and why?

I'm not looking to start a Ford vs. Chevy argument, I am looking for some help making a calculated decision, as I have never bought a truck like this before, and plan on pulling a big 'ol boat on a daily basis.

My only advice is you don't need a shotgun to kill a mouse. 2,200 lbs is not too much for most trucks full size at least 1500 can handle that.

I appreciate the input, H-Town, but I don't think an F150 will be sufficient for hauling a boat of that size every single day, without some serious wear and tear. I basing that opinion on hauling a center console skeeter with an F150.

I would even look at a F-350 or 3500 HD long bed, single tire rear axle. It may seem like overkill, but that's a big old boat and behind one of those trucks it would tow like a dream. With some adjustable shocks and the right air pressure in the tires, you can get a pretty good ride out of one.

When I am ready to buy my next truck it will be a Tundra diesel...Toyota quality and cummins engine.....

If you wanted a diesel I would find a good old Ford 7.3 4wd. Gas I would get a Tundra. Mine would drag that boat anywhere. Only complaint about the Yota is the small gas tank. New ones have 36 gallon but not worth trading for IMO. Well, right now anyway. Seems the DEF problems with all the new diesels outweigh the gains of having a diesel truck in the first place.

I like my Fords. I have a 7.3 and a 6.7. There is no comparison between the two, the 6.7 will out preform the 7.3 in every aspect.

Lane, this is a very good one and I think maybe your best bet is not here. But, maybe with your local farmers as they work small trucks and have to make the money work.

The F-150 with Ecoboost is another option but F250 with 6.7 is the way to go. I had both and the F250 is a far better choice. You can find the XLT versions (toned down interior without bells and whistles) for much cheaper than the upper lines.

Whatever you decide on take it to a mechanic(3rd party with no interest)and have a pre-purchase inspection done. Im in the automotive industry and I see people on a daily basis have them checked out afterward and I have to give them bad news.

I drove Fords for 30+ yrs and always considered them the working man's truck. After buying the first Tundra in 2007, I may never buy a Ford again. The F250 with 6.7 is a great hauling truck. Will do everything you want with ease. Based on my experience with the Tundra, it will do likewise.

the power of the truck is just one aspect, if you have trailer brakes makes a difference too. I have a 19 foot boat, but it weighs almost 4000 pounds. My chevy silverado 1500 has plenty of power to pull it, but I have to be careful stopping, because the weight of my boat has pushed me into intersections on foggy , wet mornings. I dont have trailer brakes though. So the first thing I would find out is how much your boat weighs, full load, battle rattle ready, with gas in it, ect. And does your trailer have brakes.

also 2200 lbs sounds very light for a 24 foot center console., I would take it to a weigh station, fully loaded and see what she weighs. and does that include the motor? The motor could weigh 600 to 1000 lbs is the boat glass or aluminum.?
