A friend told me that 8 ft length rods are illegal in some tournaments.. Is that true? I have never heard that one before.

Just asking since I have one 8 foot rod..

I believe that is why there are quite a few 7'11" flipping and cranking sticks.

Used to be but that was when you never saw 8ft rods. Rarely see that rule anymore

What's the reason for "outlawing" that size?

8' 0" foot rods are usually the maximum length allowed.

That rule started because back in the day when flipping was invented and guys were using 16ft sticks. They were kickin everyone's butt with them so they made the 8ft rule, thus pitching was born... don't remember the specific years or guys but that's the roots of where the rule came from.

I say we fish 5 days a week and work 2.

Yup. Always read the rules before you fish any tournament.

We could designate some slot lakes that only allow rods under 4 ft or over 8 ft?
