Moved to Austin recently and finally got my boat up and running again. Never fished Travis but am going to hit it first thing in the morning. I live in Jonestown on the northwest end of the lake. Safe launch areas near me? Structure or depth recommendations? Are there sand bass/stripers as well as largemouth? If you're on Travis tomorrow i'm in a 97' red/white Champ 202 with a 225 Mariner on it. Thanks guys!

Plenty of new flooded growth with the big rise in water level past few years. Can't go wrong with Shakey head and Tx rigs out on ledges on points and bluff walls.

Ramp in Jonestown should be open It is at the end of Sandy Creek arm. Lots of little creeks up there to fish. Head out to main lake to remind yourself why you have a Champ! Lots of big big boats out there. Smoke grub on spinning rig and blue fleck texas rig power worm. I used to have a 86' houseboat at Sandy Creek marina and fished that area all the time. Now I have a cruiser further up the lake and fish in Hurst creek in my 20 year old champ. Good luck.!

Thanks guys. Hogbus if you're out tomorrow...look me up. I'm in a white/red 202. Until I know the boat is running well I'm going to try to stay pretty close to the ramp I put in at. Any idea at about what depth to look for on the deep stuff Jaret? May try to start with a frog in the new growth early. Thanks for the info...I'll post what happens. One other question...line size a big deal in this lake? I used to fish Roberts and Fork a lot so I've got 15lb big game on moving baits and 20lb XT on tx rig.

12-15lb is norm out there. I'd hit bluffs that drop of quick to 25-30+

Well here's the report: Since I haven't had the boat on this lake and just got it back on the water after some minor repairs, I decided to stay near the ramp. Put in about 7am at City of Jonestown ramp (wow $15.00 launch fee!!) and started out testing my boat. Dash graph...no go. TM...check. Bow graph...nope... so fishing kinda blind. Ok, let's see what we have on Lake Travis. Taking advice from Jaret and Hogbus, started throwing at new shoreline vegetation around 7:30. Tried Yellow Magic for a few minutes, but no takers. 1/4 oz spinner bait caught 1 small bass. Switched to a small bandit and caught 3 more in about 45 min. Biggest one was near 3 lbs. Caught one more one on a senko, then decided to try more of what Jaret suggested on ledges. One thing I didn't pick up on right away was that some of these ledges are 10 feet off the bank. Man, what drop offs at this lake. Since I had no graphs and couldn't really see what I was throwing at, tried a few points with vegetation. Caught the biggest bluegill I've caught in a long, long time on a bandit....nearly 1/2 pound. If this is the forage size, there should be some monster bass in this lake. By 10 am I was in the middle of wake boats and jet fleas. Headed in to work on electronics. All in all, I had a decent morning and am looking forward to seeing what Travis holds in the future.
