I know this topic has been touched on many times but I just wanted to share my experience this week. Wednesday I wanted to test my skills as an angler so I headed to TB. I have only fished it a hand full of times. I intentionally did not get there until 9, after the morning bite. I figured if I was worth my weight in salt I should be able to catch a limit at the worst time of day. I focused on off shore structure. Well I figured out I am not the angler I thought I was. So today I decided to head to good old Sam Rayburn and basically did the same thing, early this time. I have been trying to hone my off shore skills. I really needed to confidence boost from Wednesday. We had 18.8 lbs in the boat by 10:30 this morning. Then spent the rest of the day scouting out knew areas. I know TB can be tough this time of year and the added pressure of being voted best lake in the country two years in a row does not help, but nothing?????? Just blows my mind how different these two lakes set up and fish. I will figure out TB but I guess its just gona take a little time. Here is a pic of the two biggest on today's trip. One is 5.75 lbs and the other is 6.31 lbs.

Great fish on a hot day. How do they set up differently?

Congrats on some good fish and a decent trip on Rayburn.
As Jaret said above - the lakes more often than not fish different for a few reasons.

Bassmaster gets results of tournaments on lakes and at least in part uses that to rate the lakes. "It took 32 pounds to win and 28 to finish second in a recent tournament..." That tells you how the guys who have spent countless hours on the lake, know it like the backs of their hands, and found the mother lode on tournament day did, but are those results representative of guys who just decide to go down and fish for a couple of days but don't really know the lake well? Probably not.

Toledo Bend was just about as highly rated a couple of years ago, and we were all excited to go down and fish a two-day tournament there. It wss mid-October and we expected the fishing to be very good. There were some pretty good bags brought in, but the guys I know personally and I didn't experience the type of fishing we were hoping for. That doesn't mean the lake wasn't good, just that it wasn't easy to show up, fish for a couple of practice days, and find a bunch of fish.

Yes we need more threads like this. Toledo Bend is washed up, fished out, over the hill, overrated, a thing of the past. No fish left on Toledo, it's like the dead sea out there. Go fish some place else if you want to catch fish.

Not sure why anyone thinks people are saying Toledo Bend sucks. All I said is that just because it's ranked the #1 lake by Bassmaster doesn't mean people should expect to show up and hammer them. Unless they get lucky it's probably going to take some time on the water. There aren't big fish everywhere just waiting for us to toss a bait in their direction.

I like to fish, but I also like to sleep. I fish the same lake 3 or more times a week frequently. I've determined that if you ain't there sun up or sundown then basically you're really just asking for punishment. That being said, there are always exceptions to the rule but this is usually how it plays out for me.

They do fish very differently. I have yet to figure Rayburn out. I seem to be stuck on the 10-14 lb per day average. That doesn't due much in a tourney.
