I'm looking at upgrading my graph on my concole.
Which is better the Humminbird 1199si HD or the Helix 10 si?

Most customers have said the Helix 10 Si was an upgrade. Brighter screen, faster processor, AutoChart Live pre-loaded. The Helix line has been the best selling units this year.

The Helix 10 has a much higher pixel density display.
The Helix 10 SI GPS actually replaced the 999ci HD SI Combo---same MSRP
The Helix 9 SI GPS replaced the 899ci HD SI Combo---same MSRP
The Helix 12 CHIRP SI GPS replaced the 1199ci HD SI Combo---same MSRP
In all three cases, you get a larger display for that same price.
Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

I upgraded this year to the Helix 10 after fishing for years behind the 1199. Helix is brighter, clearer and faster and if you use your side imaging much you will like the wider screen. I would not go back. The autochart live is also very nice for those areas where the current mapping is lacking.

I ran 4 of the 1199 units last year and went back with 3 of the Helix 10s on this years boat and I have been very pleased with the units. Same platform as the 1199 but as said above, better screen resolution and faster processor has really been a nice addition. Not to mention the options you have with the mapping and not being forced into one mapping program is very nice, I am running Navionics Platinum in all 3 units and the ease of recording for sonar charts and viewing the FishNChip layer on those are cards in very simple and easy to access.

I have an 1198 flush mounted in my dash. Will the Helix 10 SI GPS or better yet the Helix 12 CHIRP SI GPS fit in the same footprint?

The Helix 10 and 12 are not the same footprint as your 1198. You can see the comparison below >
