The Stanley football jig did her job on 3. It definitely was tough. I only had 3 real bites. One fish tore off the tail of a E-2 big worm. Blue flake. And had something. (I think it was a big striper) roll my xd6 when it banged off a stump. First place definetly had a heck of a bag!

Congratulations Andrew!
I had been down Friday practicing for the Keith Bradshaw benefit tournament coming up on August 13th and decided to fish this one as a co. I drew and fished with Dustin Scroggins who finished 3rd.
I only managed one fish for 2.40# and Dustin didn't catch his fifth keeper until 10 minutes before our flight was due in.

so Danny & Others ......
what was the difference between 1 fish for 2.5 pounds and Dustin's 5 fish limit.
or the difference between 1 fish and 30 pound bag for the winners.
I have never understood this concept & Danny is a "good" fisherman.

(?) It's called "competition", like other sporting events! Winner gets the "win" and more money, and points for final standings for the yr.

This is my take. I considered myself a pretty decent angler at one time but I fished Bass Champs with a really good angler in his boat. He would run the boat and so many days he would catch a limit of fish and would be hitting every good spot and I would be left in the back of the boat to mop up and hopefully figure something out a little different to catch a fish to help the cause. The majority of the time he caught most of the fish and I was counted on to hopefully catch a fish or two to help out. Then I would fish a club tournament out of my boat and have a non boater with me. Especially if I practiced and was actually on fish or a pattern I would be hitting every good spot and there were plenty of times I might catch a limit or even win the tournament and my non boater struggle to even catch a fish or two. A lot of times it is just the dominate boater being on the front of the boat knowing what to do and executing his pattern or technique to catch the fish. Doesn't happen 100% of the time but more often than not especially when it is tournaments like ABA or when I used to be a non boater in the old Anglers Choice Pro Ams.

I fished this as a co. Most of the guys that fish these from the front of the boat are great sticks and they don't miss a lot. From the back, I resort to trying something a little different or going finesse to get bites the pro on the front is not getting. He has the prerogative and can angle the boat to his way of fishing and you have to adapt. In my case for this tournament, I had fished with Bret before, (last year at Tyler and got a nice check). We were dock fishing and the bite was just tough. We just weren't getting many bites. I went away from my shaky head and picked up a jig. He was also throwing a jig. I figured, if I'm only going to get a couple bites, hopefully they will be good ones. He got first shot at everything, but sometimes it took multiple pitches to get a fish to bite. We ended up weighing essentially the same bag. For a reaction bite, sometimes having first cast at a spot means EVERYTHING.

I really want to know why some guys catch all the fish and some struggle, even though they know what they are doing. My brother-in-law out fishes me from the back of my boat on a regular basis,,,,, My buddies from college out fish me 2-1 on numbers and big fish when we go on an outing. I consider myself to be "good" or "better than average" and I know all the "thing" about fishing,,,,, but I don't consider myself to be "a stick". what makes one "a stick" vs "better than average" ????
