I was talking with a guy in our RV park and he mentioned he had his transducer (shoot through) located in the middle of his boat. I've seen a lot of talk on here about placing your bouy based on watching the screen, and knowing you already passed over the spot with the back of the boat,..etc. I got to thinking, in the middle of the boat would be pretty cool...now when you see where you want you bouy you just throw it out to the side , rather than try throw it back behind the boat,...wouldn't that be easier.. he said he loves it there,..I know, I have to much time on my hands...

I see a couple of problems....
1. few boats have a flat area in the middle to mount it to and at an angle your reading would be off.
2. would not read at high speeds.....as soon as there was air between the surface and the bottom of the boat...

What kind of boat you running. If your running an aluminum jon with a 10hp great idea. If you are running a rig that gets up on plane, not a good idea. As mentioned-you will lose your read when you get air.

I throw my buoy 20 ft or more from the fish anyway so I'm less likely to hang the buoy rope when fishing.

In a bass boat, there is no way to mount it in the middle anyway unless you go in through the floor drain.
Wouldn't work at speed and no flat spot are other problems.
