Anyone ever use these for Bluegills? I have a problem with them swallowing the hook and I'm thinking that with the right size treble hook they wouldn't be able to get the whole hook in but may still hook themselves on one of the barbs. Thoughts?

I have always used a size six hook and the size six cricket hook. The cricket hook has a long shaft that helps prevent some swallowing. I also try to set the hook as soon as I feel the bite. A fast hook set helps a lot!

Maybe its just me, but I do not like treble hooks and bluegills. When using spinners, they will most always swallow the entire hook making it very difficult to release any hooked with a treble. Same for flies and pretty much for bait.
The best way to go is long shank hooks...easy to remove and effective hook ups.

I hadn't thought of long shank hooks. I'll have to try them, thanks.

I catch them on trebles on some of my panfish size plugs and it can be a bit of a bother to get the small guys off. If you are fishing bait and trebles (at least the small trebles like size 8 and smaller) you are in for headaches. The long shank cricket and Aberdeen hooks are a much better option.
