Fished Lake Granger today for about 5 hours and also refreshed a few piles.

I decided to do a little test today with 40 pound test braid and DAN'S JIGS!

Have always been told that you need to fish light line to get the most bites and not spook the fish.
I usually fish 8 pound mono and have not had any issues other than breaking off when I get hung up bad.

The main reason I don't fish braid is that it tangles so easy on your rod tip.
A lot of people fish braid 2-20 lb,range.
I used 40 pound and it still had a few issues with tangles, but not too bad...
Question was, could I catch fish with this heavy of line.

Caught over 100 fish and kept 25.
Now the question.... was it DAN'S JIGS?.
Whatever it was, the fish did not seem to mind the 40 pound braid.

I would STRONGLY suggest that you buy this JIG!

CHROME HEAD, GOLD GLITTER CHENILLE BODY, PURPLE TAIL
1/32 OZ. WITH #4 HOOK!!!!

This is always my go to jig and Danny has made improvements to this jig with a little different chenille.

There has not been a lake that I have fished that this jig has not done well on, and I have fished a lot of lakes!

Thanks Danny! flehan

If Danny doesn't post pic of this jig, I will soon.

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

I don't think crappie are too "line shy".

I don't use HEAVY braid only because I cant break it by hand (easily), w/o risking getting cut.

40lb braid would be equivalent to 10 mono line. Would really depend on the clarity of the water you were fishing.

Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks guys for the shout out...

Actually, below is the jig Kevin is talking about. It is a spin off of the Ginger Snap jig. I call it the Gold Slinger. Has worked well for me as well.

Dan makes good jigs!

20-50# braid is all I use and without a leader 99% of the time. A quick tug and I can bend the hook on a jig rather than lose it.
Every once in a while it will tangle, but if you pay attention you can keep it from doing so.

That is the jig Danny, and this is what we caught yesterday!

Caught close to 90 keeper size crappie yesterday with this nice 1.60 being the biggest!

Most of which were caught on the gold slinger jig!
We kept a one man limit and threw the rest back!

Very nice! That is a good looking jig. For the most part crappie are not line shy (unless the water is crystal clear which is not the case around here for the most part). If they will take a minnow attached to a welding rod then some braid or Hi-Vis line wont bother them.

Danny, you better get busy tying after this post!

Danny makes quality jigs that last folks!
.I have been using them for a year and have been lucky enough to catch 2 lake records with his jigs. I prefer the 1/8 oz. Because I am too impatient for the lighter jigs to drop.

That is a spin off the Ginger Snap that one looks good with the purple tail. I think this one will do good on Granger as well.
This is the one you gave me to try out as well I like the baby blue tail.

I don't think the fish see the line if it's six feet or so deep. I've always fished braid.

Hey everybody, Just an FYI... Think I am going to change name of above jig to Gold Digger to prevent any confusion with another TX jig tier already using the same name. Think this would be good for the both of us.
