Have some friends that swear by these baits and was just wondering how you work it and when and where do you throw it? It's kinda hard to make myself buy a bait called a whopper plopper but what the hell if it catches fish

Throw it when the fish are where you're at

Seems the plopper is famous since Chris Lane gave it some FaceTime on bassmaster live.

I've been going to Ray Hubbard around 7pm 2 or 3 days a week working on all my top water stuff. The thing I've noticed about the ploper is pretty much every strike is a hookup. As opposed to frogs where I'm still working on timing between strike and Hookset.
So the other night about dark the sandies blow up around me. I throw the plopper past them and drag it thru and it was crazy. They would hit it so hard they would knock it out of the water. Several doubles till they tore the front treble completely off the lure.
I'm not a big sandbass guy but it was a blast!

It's been popular for a few years before that. West coast been throwing them for years and they starTed getting popular across the country about 2 years.

I have a couple of them and haven't caught a fish bigger than the bait yet, caught bunches same size or smaller than the plopper

The whopper plopper is the only thing I have used that comes close to the numbers I catch on the Yellow Magic.

Try throwing the plopper where you throw your frog and them tell us how the hook ratio is.

I threw one on Toledo Bend a couple weeks ago. Only got one bite but what a bite! The water exploded and I hooked the fish and it went down in the grass. I swore by the bite and weight I had a toad. I got it in the boat and it was a foul hooked hydrilla covered 2 pounder. roflmao I couldn't believe a fish that size could blow up like that. No bites on it on Palestine last week.
