I hope they are going to design a cover for that giant hole. I can see a lot of lures, bait and maybe even fish being lost.

Jackson had to join in on the "push to pedals" and since Hobie likely has patent protection on the penguin fins, they go to the bike pedal type.

Pretty cool and we now have several different approaches.

What will happen? Some won't live up to expectations in terms of practicality, wear and tear, service requirements and so forth. I'd be reluctant to buy any new mechanical system in its first year. It makes no difference how much engineering goes into these sorts of things, it will require thousands of man-hours from guys and gals like us to work out any bugs or kinks.

For the kayak angler, 2016 is definitely the "Year of Pedal Drive".

I would love to have one, but I just don't see myself putting down that much money.
For that money, I might as well get a boat.

The Jackson pedal unit has a 1 to 12 gearing ratio which exceeds the 1 to 10 of the Natives and the 1 to 7 (I believe) for the new Wilderness pedal yaks.

And, the Jackson will allow for an adjustment that will make for a low, medium and hard pedal setting. Interesting.

One thing about a Slayer Propel 10 and likely 13, too, is just the literal weight of one's legs cycling around is all the resistance that it takes to get up to a cruise speed.

No matter, in the end theoretical hull speed calcs more or less define the maximum speed. Setting gearing for "hard" might not actually give one much of a top end speed advantage. Still, some room to set things the way they feel best for the operator. Nothing feels worse to me than too little resistance. I never liked pedaling a 10 speed bike in the lower gears either preferring a moderate resistance of mid gearing.
