Looking at two boats for the same price.

2006 Skeeter ZX 190 w/ 175hp Yamaha
18.5ft

Or

2008 Nitro NX 898 w/ 225hp Merc
22.5ft

Any opinions on either one or which you would prefer?
Curious if the older Skeeter is a better buy even if it is smaller

Thank you in advance!

Both will fish very well....depends on what your personal wants are. Lots of variables to consider....prices, limitations on where to store boat, condition of each boat and motor (carpet, seats, transom, etc), local outboard mechanics, your first impression of each. If you have the room and both boats are in great condition, and prices are in your range, why not get the larger rig? The larger boat and motor will be nice on large lakes. I don't have room for a larger boat and mostly fish the river so my 19' rig is perfect for me.

The 898 is a 20 foot boat.

What are the asking prices?

They are both about 15k.

Didnt know if the 2 feet made a huge difference fishing or a smooth ride. Also wondering how nitro compares to skeeter.

The Skeeter ZX190 w- Yamaha is the best, however I may be partial cause that's what I have. Only difference is my motor is a SHO.

The 898 has a porpoising issue. Might have to add a fin to stop it.

Google nitro 898 porpoising if you don't believe me.

I would avoid it.

I am partial to Skeeter
Never ridden in these two particular models but have been in 2009 nitro and I wouldn't recommend it coulda been the driver in the Nitro
I will stick with my skeeter though

Skeeter 20-I 250 HPDI

The nitro is 2 years newer with a bigger motor and is a longer boat which will be nice on windy days on Toledo. But the skeeter is a nice boat also. Just go with your gut on which will work best for you.

Also what kind of electronics does each boat have?

Motor hours and maintenance records would be my first thought. Then the electronics etc.

Just thought I'd share my experience.... The market is flooded with boats like those. You can find a sweet deal or a guy in a pickle that needs the cash if you will keep looking at boats like that. There are tons of them available in our great state. I spent just a bit more than that but found a 21i with every bell and whistle on it because there are so many out there. People get rid of them at that age. Don't be scared to keep searching and make some fair to low offers on the ones you want. If you aren't in a hurry, you can save a bundle but of course you have to be flexible on colors and such.

My concerns from the above would be the porposing on the Skeeter and the quality of the hinges, latches, hardware, etc on the Nitro. Mine has a small wedge added under the jack plate so I don't have any porposing issues but obviously it's there for a reason.

If your heart is set on one of the above then go drive them if you can or fish out of it for a bit and see what you think. Be sure you let someone you trust look at the motor and give you there opinion. Longer is better wink for most of our lakes and just remember..... Cash in hand for someone who's had a boat on the market for a while talks loudly. PM me if you have any question but my guess is, either would serve you well.

Never -- ever pas up what you think is a deal because of what others say/think.
If you like one --- buy it. Then go fishing.
Drive them both. Compare electronics and TM. But what you want
