I hate turning on the stove more than you can imagine during the summer. Most of our meals are grilled or cooked outside in some form or fashion. So this sounds perfect. I can have the slow cooker and the rice on the back porch and just bring them in when they're done.

Slow cooker beef and broccoli

2 lbs sirloin steak or boneless beef chuck roast, sliced thin
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp. sesame oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
4 Tbsp. cornstarch
4 Tbsp. water
1 pound of broccoli florets. or more if you want.

In the insert of the crockpot, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic.

Place slices of beef in the liquid and toss to coat. Cover with lid and cook on low heat for 4 hours.

After 4 hours, whisk together cornstarch and water in small bowl. Pour into crock pot and stir to mix well. Add the broccoli and gently stir to combine. Cover with lid and cook 30 minutes to cook broccoli and thicken sauce.

Do you use a rice cooker Katt? We got hooked on them living in Honolulu.

Yep. Have for many years. Love it. Couldn't live without it.

I'm going to warn you this came out way salty. I'd cut the soy sauce in half.
It's a great idea. We're just extremely sensitive to salt.

Instead of soy sauce try using Bragg liquid aminos
Soy sauce taste but no sodium

I use a rice cooker to cook up a pound or two and then put it in a zip lock bag in the freezer. I use brown rice, but no reason white rice would not work too. Take out as much as you want when you need it and microwave it. Saves cooking rice every time.

Just put the soy sauce on the table. I rarely cook with it. We use Shoyu sauce instead, another Hawaii learned thing.

But shoyu is soy sauce? Only difference is the quality. What most folks call soy sauce is the cheap box from the dollar store. Shoyu can range up to the $75 / bottle, gently aged.

I tend to use a lot of the amakuchi shoyu.. a sweet, thinner, lighter version.
