Went out yesterday evening and saw a boat literally on almost every single brush pile on the lake lol. Pretty solid for a Thursday...

Almost every brush pile on the lake had a boat or 2 on them this morning. My customers caught a lot of crappie. Unfortunately they caught more than 10 short fish for every keeper. We fished 6 different brush piles and different spots on some piles. Scratched out 18 keepers to clean. Tough day on the piles. Even had a boat on a timber spot I normally fish to boot on the very 3 trees I normally fish. Didn't see anybody really doing well on brush today.

Well we did a trip with Cody back when those South Winds were blowing 30 knots and we still managed to catch 13! Cody is that good. HaHa.
Dad and I have fished Roberts 4 times since our trip with Cody and we have caught a grand total of 1 keeper per trip. That has always been our experience with Roberts. It has never been a kind lake to us ever.
I can go to Tawokini or Fork and on a bad day put at least a one man limit in the boat.
We needed to wash the skunk off our boat so we went to Lavon. We only had a half day to fish.
We have not fished that lake in over a year. We spent about 3 hours looking and exploring. We checked out varying water depths in different areas etc.
Caught a few dinks but that was about it. We were headed back to the ramp and there was one last area that I knew had some submerged timber that I wanted to fish. We pitched a marker and threw in our jigs...we had a double hook up immediately!!
We were throwing them back because we figured we would only catch a few and it would be over. Boy we had that figured wrong. We caught at least 40 fish in the 90 minutes we played around in that area. We kept 14 real nice ones towards the end.
I broke one of my TICA rods...it is a total loss. Snapped off 24 inches above my reel. I lost at least 15 jigs fishing in the trees. Paying the lake Gods.
One of the highlights was I broke a jig off. Tied on another one. The South Wind was picking up and slinging us around. I pitched my jig out pulled it up to move it and my jig that I had lost was on my hook...once in a lifetime event could not believe it. Wish it had been on video.
If you want to catch some Crappie on Ray Roberts I can highly recommend Cody Tucker based on personal experience. I'm sure any of the guides that regularly fish that lake to put you on some Crappie.
However, the lake has been extremely unkind to us personally and we will be going elsewhere for the time being.
I caught more fish on LAVON in 4.5 hours then I've caught total on Roberts in 4 personal trips.
Glad to see someone has been having some luck on Roberts. Some really beautiful fish being caught on it right now.
Cody Tucker is not just a guide to us, but a new lifetime friend to our family. Glad to see he has those Crappie Dialed in.
Be safe out there everyone that heat is brutal. Drink lots of fluids.
Oh by the way 1/8 ounce pink jig heads. Black and Chartreuse Thump Buddies and Crazy Angler Slab Bandit in River Cane was the ticket!!
