My brother and I are from the Dallas area and made the decision to drive out to Lake Athens this past Saturday.. The ramp didn't seem as packed as I had heard and feared, so that was nice.. It was a beautiful, calm morning, and, never having been to the lake before I had no idea where to go.. We made a short run down the lake towards the dam and decided to fish in a large cove with boat docks and an island.. We started off throwing frogs with a couple of fish in the 2lb range beating the banks.. Then the fun began, all over the cove, bass were crushing shad on the surface.. We had quite a bit of action on top till about 10:30 when it all stopped.. We then moved around a little , drop shotting, and c-rigging and boated a few more. We fished until about 1pm and boated somewhere around 30 2-4 lb fish..

All in all, an awesome day!! And.. without the fine folks here on the forum, I probably wouldn't have ever even heard of this lake!!

The numbers of 2# bass is the largest I have seen it in 5 years
The winter action for 5-8 pounders should be excellent
