I guarantee that the LED strips are far brighter and get people's attention a lot more than the cheap junk lights that come on these high dollar boats.

its not just the brightness of the lights. Navigation lights must be installed correctly. they tell a driver which direction another approaching boat is heading... The green should be visible up to a certain angle and just the same with the red. I am sure most of us here know this. But I wonder about some people. The worst for me are the pontoons with the bright white (headlights) you can not tell which direction they are going, I really wish they would check lights at these little working man tourneys just like a live well check. its crazy how many boaters have one or the other light, not both.

It's also important to make sure you have your lights on. Been several occasions where I've been moving across a lake in the dark and notice a pontoon or recreational boat without any lights on.

Yea, it's not about brightness. I think it is a 20 degree angle to each side for the fronts and 1ft above the highest part of the boat for the rear light. I'm sure they don't have to be exact but the angles need to be close so people know which way you are going. Running around with black lights or other lights all around your boat is dangerous. I really don't mind the lights when people are not running, it does help to see them. I saw a champ with black light strip lighting all the way around his boat. Have to admit it was bad a$$.

Has nothing to do with being brighter.

I have them inside the gunnel... But no way can you run with them on full... You have to dim them way down because you cannot see outside the boat at night with them on at their brightest.... But like I said they are inside the gunnel....
