Hey Yall-

Im looking to buy my first boat to fish in Matagorda/Galveston Bay, and several other places in Texas and Louisiana.

I was wondering what yall would recommend in terms of size and model.

Tight Lines,

Will

Great news. You have a lot of choices
Bad news. You have a lot of choices.
Narrow it down by being honest with these questions.
Do you wade?
Are you anchored up chunking bait?
Jetties part of your plan?
How many people do you need to tend to?
What's your tow vehicle?
How much were you planning on dropping on this toy?
Your personal experience running a boat in the bays?
Be honest and can probably get it down to two or three good choices.

Ive decided on the Mako Pro Skiff 17.

Can handle most of everything I would be interested in doing from jetties to gigging.

Its affordable, and my car can tow it.

Thanks for the help!

I will give you THE most important advice, put the max rated motor on it, and you'll be happy, don't and you won't.

Car? Not a truck or SUV? Check the manufacturers towing specs carefully before you spend the money on the boat. While you're not going to need a half ton truck to pull the boat you describe, you'll need more than a typical modern passenger car.

Does your car have a transmission cooler installed? You WILL need it, even on a 17' boat.
