Hey y'all I haven't posted on here in a minute but I was wondering if it would be worth heading up to the LMF over Labor day weekend. It's my 18th birthday on Sep. 3rd and my family wants to do something special so I thought why not take my dad and brother up there for a little 3 day weekend trip. My main concern is the heat, I really don't want to kill any fish by stressing them out too much so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
- Brendan

It's quite probably going to be very crowded with tourists and fishermen that weekend. Might think about making your reservations real early.

I've fished it in September and the water was really nice and cool, almost cold. No stress problems that I noticed on released trout. But if you are concerned use a heavier rod and leader than you normally would and bring them in real fast so they don't have time to get tired.

Yeah I figured it would be packed due to the 3 day weekend. Thanks for the reply Lloyd

You may not have to worry about stressing fish. 1) They will all be stockers and 2) The flows have been increased to keep some cooler water downstream. It will be VERY crowded though. That weekend is kind of the last hurrah for TX/OK kids and families.

Still, any time with family is very cool. Go for the experience and hope for the best fishing-wise. As Lloyd said, reserve early.......

Thanks Jeff! Yeah I know that they're stockers but I thought I heard somewhere that some holdovers were spawning? Maybe I'm wrong.

Spawn is in December/January. Not many holdover fish since the last flood, at least not in catchable areas. Hopefully we will see them again in the winter.

Have fun.

I have just an odd feeling we are going to see way more wild fish move up than anticipated though:)

Well I went and looked at cabins a few days ago, and all of them were booked! Looks like I'm gonna be taking the family down to the coast. The redfish should be running right off of the beach so at least we'll still have some fishing opportunities. I was thinking the same Robert, those fish are incredibly resilient.
