I need to get my wife a better reel that she can cast. Currently she is using a Zebco but when I add a little heavier line on it, it doesnt work correctly. She can not cast a baitcaster and she says spinning rig is uncomfortable in her hand. She caught her first bass on a worm last weekend and now she wants something better than what she is using. Her zebco is good up to 10 pound line and I put a little heavier line on it in case she got into a bigger fish. Is there a better brand than zebco but that style reel?

Rig the reel she likes with 30 lb braid and see how it works. I think 30 braid is the diameter of 8 lb mono. You may not need a new reel

Some of the Zebcos, like the 808 will hold 20 lb mono. Former Classic winner Woo Daves won a BASS event in the early 90's using a Zebco 808 reel to skip worms under docks. Said he made this choice not only because it eliminated backlashes, but because it also held heavier line.

Braid will cause issues on most spincast style reels, I would caution the use of braid. Little kids can learn to throw a good baitcaster so your wife can if she is willing to learn thru a little frustration and gets positive support. In the long term all will be happier.

Well said this is what I had to battle with my wife and now I think she casts better than me

Get her a new Platinum Zebco 33. And use Senshi 20lb mono in it. It has a diameter closer to 10-12lb mono. And is strong. The diameter of the 20lb mono is .013". 12lb InvisX is .012.

Check out the zebco omega line of reels...got my wife one years ago...they are great reels and I keep 12lb seguar on it...also got my son one for his first reel and it has been bullet proof as well...my wife refuses to even try a baitcaster...Good luck.

There are some easy to cast, harder to backlash and small baitcasters being made now.

+1 on the Omega series reels. I think there is one that will hold #20 line.

I say we fish 5 days a week and work 2.

Shakespeare makes a bait cast reel that has spool attachment that comes with it that will not let it backlash. I bought 2 for my daughters and they work great and they are cheap.

Just wait till she breaks the line then hand her a bait caster with tape on it. My wife's being the same way with a Zebco. Once they try it they'll never go back after seeing how much better they can reel it in
