I have three spots that I have been baiting for a few days with little luck. I have been using cottonseed cake and soured milo, and have them in 6-8'. Two are on shallow flats near the channel and the other is on a long windy point, but as I said not much luck yet. Please give some pointers on getting a priductive baited hole for the kiddos.

Are you just tossing it out or do you have it weighted in a bucket? Could be a current or wind current is carrying your bait away. I haven't baited a whole in several years but when I did I always had better luck tying a five gallon bucket weighted with bricks to a log with holes drilled in the lid and a few on the side (obviously you will need a cordless drill to make this happen). If there is cats in the area then they will zoom in on that spot. It could also be there are no cats in the area that you have baited. Hope you get it figured out and good luck to you.

I did my initial baiting with 20 lbs of cotton seed cubes, then chum every day that I fish around dawn with milo. I put out about 5-10 lbs of cubes on the days I'm not fishing. Maybe I'm feeding them too well. I'll try rigging up a few buckets and see what happens. Thank you.

I did this,I made some chum bags out of dollar store laundry bags filled them full of range cubes 20% kind did this in about 6 places wait about three days and pick up the bag and take a look.If the bag was m/t then fish were hitting it if the bag was swelled with expanded cubes then I moved the bag. Once I got them in I then would come and chum and fish each spot. I chummed with milo and wheat. Most of the time I would only have to fish about three of the six spots to limit out.I was fishing flooded timber cause the lake has been so high. I only dropped the bags down about six FT in twenty foot of water.I fished a punch bait didn't drop it all way to the bottom I just started about two FT deep and let it very slowly go the down about a inch or two at a time lots of the time it was FISH ON at about 4 to 6 FT deep. Good Luck.

You might try moving off the points and shallow flats and into the coves close to where the creeks meet the channel.

Just one more cast!

That makes sense with surface temp pushing the low 90's. Thanks, I'm going to try some new area this afternoon after work. If I get some working I'll share coordinates for anyone wanting to fish Buchanan.

Not being a troll or anything . Just curious . Is baiting a whole legal ? I was kinda asking about the 5 gallon bucket method particularly ? If so what kind of trouble are we talkin here . I've thought about doing the same at some of my spots . Don't have a boat so can't chase fish figured Id bring them in !
