When I first started I wanted to take everything I owned (just in case). I have gotten down to two of the clear front tackle trays and one plastic book. I'm thinking I am going to try and consolidate more.

2 rods, rarely 3. A single flat tackle tray as shown in the photo, plus a smaller box. Anchor and a smaller cooler with a few drinks. I made a crate and loaded it up but only used it one time. Less can be more.

I take a milk crate which hold about 6 plano boxes and one small plastics binder. Unfortunately it is pretty much all of the tackle I own lol

Depends. I have a couple fishing holes that all I need is a frog rod and a senko rod with a handful of bait. If going somewhere blind or in a tourney I take 5-7 rods and a small tackle shop worth of tackle.

Whether I'm in the marshes searching for reds or in the rivers searching for bass:
2 tackle trays: 1 with Hard lures 1 with soft plastics
3 Rods (although I find myself using only 2 of them) 1 rod with braid, 1 with mono, 1 with flouro.

All I can load and still fit my big butt in the kayak...depends on what I am going for.
Always have cooler for drinks, anchor, fish finder, net, lip grippers and a fish box (except when bass fishing) of some kind.
3-5 for cats with one box of terminal tackle, small cooler for bait add jug lines if I am going for lots of groceries 5-7 for bass with too much tackle to try to fit any pattern 2-4 for crappie depending on what I am doing 1-4 boxes of jigs, bodies and terminal tackle 3-4 for sand bass/striper/hybrid 2-6 tackle boxes for different presentations

I've seen Bert's rig . . . the one with the gunwales just above the water! Ha! Bert! Well, I don't have a lot of gear to begin with but I'd always carry at least 2 rods, 3 at the most. They are almost solely back-ups as often I never put down my primary. And, I am a finesse and spinning tackle fisherman and fish those techniques. Since the time of year dictates where and at what depth I am going to be fishing, I no longer carry winter stuff if I know I am going to drop shot most of the day in the summer. Anyway, each to his own and one thing is for sure: if you do research on the place you will be fishing, what the weather and temperature is and more, you can likely eliminate whole groups of Plano boxes. I never skimp on water, leader replacement line, keep a decent supply of hooks/sinkers and tackle, maybe a couple of Plano boxes with targeted gear. A funny I found some time ago below. Brad

Fish with one rod but take two just in case, one of the deep 3600 plano boxes, (3630 I think). But then you have the anchor, cooler, depth finder, crate, net etc. Always feels like too much and I always feel like I forgot something.

The more you fish the easier it is to figure out what you need to take. I'm a minimalist and I only carry what I know I will use and that's no more than three rods at the most, and that can vary depending on what kind of fish you are after. The can't do without gear goes into the crate, like pliers, fish grips, plastic tackle boxes, anchor, stringer, knife etc. and it's not overly packed in either. Forgot the most important, the net!

I just got started recently and one thing I discovered is that I barely used 10 pct. of what I was taking. These days it one deep Plano full size box, with a zip lock back full of a handful of 3 -4 diff. color works, then a few crankbaits, weights, slabs and 2 rods, unless I know that I am going to be jigging or frogging. I may lose a worm now and again, but the reality is I probably am not losing more than one crankbait, so 3 is plenty. a few jig heads and a few plastic paddle tails, all in the one box. then some drinking water and bag of chips etc. I pack like a girl for everything in life, but taking that all out to not use most is a beat down. I do take one spool of 17 pound, just in case I would need to re line, but that is not likely either.
